Currently

Arturo enjoys an exciting portfolio of activities that include conducting, performing, teaching and outreach. He holds conducting posts with the Exeter Symphony Orchestra, Dorset County Orchestra and Orchestra of the University of Bath. He is also in great demand as a cellist and performs regularly as soloist, in chamber music and as a freelance orchestral musician. Arturo also teaches in several schools in the area of Dorset and Somerset and since the summer of 2023 he joined the Cherubim Music Trust as its Deputy Director (Instruments & Outreach)

He has worked with the Bruton Choral Society, Shaftesbury Symphony Orchestra, Bridport Chamber Orchestra, Wessex Strings, Axe Vale Orchestra, Yeovil Community Orchestra, Sherborne Community Orchestra, Allington Strings and the Wincanton Youth Theatre.

Arturo holds a Masters with Distinction in Conducting from the University of Surrey

In addition to conducting, performing and teaching in several schools in Dorset and Somerset, Arturo also works for the Cherubim Music trust as Deputy Director of Instruments and Outreach.

Beginnings

Arturo studied cello at El Sistema in Venezuela for ten years before pursuing further cello studies in Europe. He studied at the Conservatoire de Musique de Perpignan and Toulouse in France, in Switzerland at the Conservatoire de Musique de Geneve and the UK at the Trinity college of Music. Arturo cello teachers include German Marcano, William Molina, Yvan Chiffoleau, Etien Peclard Daniel Grosgurin and David Burrows. He also received advice from cellists such as Natalie Clein, Leonid Gorokhov, Bernhard Greenhouse, Arto Noras, Hillel Zori and Philippe Muller.

 

Arturo studied conducting Blackheath Conservatoire with Denise Ham. In addition, he has received advice from Colin Metters, Mark Heron, Rodolfo Saglimbeni, Tim Reynish and Jac van Steen.

Prizes

He has been awarded prizes in numerous competitions such as the I Latin-American Cello Competition Carlos Prieto, Oxford Music Festival Competition, the Concordia Foundation Award and the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition. He was awarded during his studies in Europe the Eversley Charitable Trust, the Montague Cleeve Scholar, the Bratton Scholar and the Carigest Foundation for Young Talents for two consecutive years.

Experience

He has also broadcasted for Radio and Television in Venezuela, Radio Suisse Romande and for BBC Radio 3. Arturo has collaborated in various recordings and productions, including film music (the Suisse film Cargo, 2009), rock, and Venezuelan folk music. Arturo have enjoyed freelancing with orchestras such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse. He was also part of the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra.
